Zen Journal Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Zen Journal ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
Zen Journal is a personal journaling application with end-to-end encryption, breathwork exercises, and a sound library. The App is designed for personal, non-commercial use.
3. User Responsibilities
3.1 Encryption Key & Mnemonic Phrase
- During setup, you will receive a 12-word mnemonic phrase. This phrase is the ONLY way to recover your data if you change your biometrics or switch devices.
- You are solely responsible for securely storing your mnemonic phrase. We cannot recover it for you.
- If you lose your mnemonic phrase and cannot authenticate via biometrics, your journal data will be permanently inaccessible. We have no ability to decrypt or recover your data.
3.2 Data Backup
- You are responsible for creating and maintaining backups of your journal data using the built-in export feature.
- We are not liable for any data loss resulting from device failure, app deletion, lost mnemonic phrases, or any other cause.
3.3 Acceptable Use
You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
4. Intellectual Property
- The App, including its design, code, icons, audio content, and branding, is owned by Zen Journal and protected by intellectual property laws.
- Audio content in the sound library is licensed for personal use within the App only. You may not extract, redistribute, or use the audio files outside of the App.
- You retain full ownership of your journal content. We claim no rights to your entries.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- The App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
- Any defects will be corrected
- The encryption implementation is free from vulnerabilities
- The breathwork exercises are suitable for your health condition
6. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ZEN JOURNAL AND ITS DEVELOPERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Loss of data or journal entries
- Inability to access encrypted content
- Loss of mnemonic phrase or encryption key
- Any damages arising from breathwork exercises or meditation practices
7. Health Disclaimer
The breathwork and meditation features are for general wellness purposes only. They are not medical advice. Consult a healthcare professional before beginning any breathing exercise program, especially if you have respiratory, cardiovascular, or other health conditions.
8. No Account or Cloud Services
Zen Journal operates without user accounts or cloud services. There is no data recovery service. The App functions entirely on your device.
9. Updates & Changes
- We may release updates to the App that modify features, fix bugs, or improve security.
- We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
- Critical security updates may require you to update the App to continue using it.
10. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device. Upon deletion, all locally stored data (journal entries, settings, downloaded audio) will be permanently removed.
11. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [Your Jurisdiction], without regard to conflict of law principles.
12. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
