Why I built the Energy Shield (the core of Zen Journal).
I am a programmer who learned one important truth: you cannot journal your way out of burnout if you keep absorbing everyone else's stress.
My therapist suggested journaling for anxiety. I tried. I wrote every morning. I felt lighter - for about an hour. Then I went to work, talked to people, and by afternoon, I was drained again. Heavy chest. Shallow breaths. A weight I couldn't name.
I didn't understand why until I noticed a pattern: After certain conversations - even casual ones - I felt depleted. Not because the topic was heavy, but because I was unconsciously absorbing other people's emotional states.
I realized that journaling alone wasn't enough. I needed something to help me hold my energy boundary throughout the day, not just process emotions after they had already invaded my space.
So I built the Energy Shield - a simple visualization practice wrapped into Zen Journal. Every morning, you set your energetic boundary: a warm golden light surrounding your body, egg-shaped. It doesn't block connection. It keeps clarity. What's yours stays in. What's not yours passes through.
When adding a privacy policy to the app, I read terms from other mental health apps: "We may share your data with third parties for analytics and advertising."
I was shocked. Your inner world should not be a commodity sold to the highest bidder.
So Zen Journal became two things:
I am a programmer who wanted to keep my sanity in a world that constantly disrupts it. This is my contribution to better mental wellness technology - one that protects your privacy as fiercely as it supports your practice.
Set your energetic boundary every morning. Hold your center through meetings, conversations, and chaos. Your energy stays yours.
